Going Solo

Why Go Solo?

Going to a rave solo is one of the most freeing things you can do. You’re free to lose yourself in the music, free to move at your own pace, and free to soak up the atmosphere without any distractions. There's something so incredible about being able to wander through the event on your own, meet new people, and let your vibe guide you through the night. When you’re dancing, it's genuinely like nobody’s watching and you can feel this electric connection with the crowd, it’s pure magic. Honestly, some of the best moments happen when you let go of expectations and dive into the experience.

Preparing for the Festival

  • Create a Plan
    • Before you go, create a list of the artists you hope to see and any side quest activities you hope to do. One of the great things about going alone is not having to follow your schedule at all or do anything someone else wants to do. Knowing who you want to see and when they perform will help you make the most of your night!
  • Energize
    • These events can be long, make sure your body is up for it! Before you head in, make sure to hydrate and at least have some snacks to give you some extra energy. Something to keep in mind though, stay away from energy drinks before you get there. They might seem tempting but can make your energy crash well before you're ready.
  • Pack your rave kit
    • Make sure you have all the essentials you're going to need for yourself. Check out our ultimate festival packing list and pack everything that makes sense for you.
  • Don't forget your essentials
    • Before you head to the festival, don't forget your Phone, ID, method of payment, and of course your ticket or pass! I have seen this many times and it is NOT a fun experience to go all the way back to get something.
  • Hoping to socialize more?
    • If you'd prefer to find a crowd beforehand, download apps like Radiate, or check out Reddit and Discord groups to find potential meetups.
  • Be prepared if you lose something
    • Prepare your phone with a scannable QR code that verifies you as the owner and includes an emergency contact in case someone finds it or turns into lost and found. Don’t stop there, you can attach the same QR code to essential items like your backpack and wallet for added peace of mind. Get yours here.
  • Back up your phone
    • Please back up anything important on your phone BEFORE heading to the festival. User services like iCloud or Google Drive/Photos to back up everything on your phone, so if your phone is lost, stolen, or broken, your new phone can get setup easily without losing anything important to you!

Making the Most of the Night

  • Explore
    • Make sure to check out everything the event has to offer (that you have time for at least.) Don't just stay in one place the whole night, most of these events have a ton of included activities you can do that will enhance your experience.
  • Make New Friends
    • Most people who attend raves and festivals love to meet new people, so don't be afraid to strike up conversations. As you continue to attend events, you may be surprised how many people you bump into that you recognize from the past!

Leaving the Venue

  • Get Home Safe
    • Whatever way you're getting back to your stay, so make sure to do it safely! You don't have a group to rely on to help watch out for things and help stay awake. Be aware of yourself and your surroundings at all times, and if you are driving, make sure you are awake and alert enough to do so. Pro tip: If you are driving, prep your car with a sports drink and energy drink to help you stay away and revitalize your body, however, remember to be aware of your caffeine intake.
  • Book your ride in advance
    • If you are taking an Uber or Lyft, if the option is available, consider booking your ride in advance to make your exit easier.
  • Recover
    • Once you get back to where you're staying and before you head to bed make sure to give your body what it needs. Drink some water or a sports/electrolyte drink, have a small snack and clean your face, or better yet (if you have the energy), take a relaxing shower.

Safety Tips

  • Don't eat or drink anything from strangers
    • While it may sometimes be tempting to take something from strangers, even just water, this can be dangerous. You don't know for sure what there may be in anything you get from someone you don't know, opening yourself up to potentially take something you didn't intend to. As you don't have a group of people to help take care of you if anything goes wrong, this opens you up to an increased chance of negative health effects.
  • Designate an emergency contact
    • Before you leave for the event, contact someone you trust and ask them if they can be your emergency contact while you're away. Use them in case there is any emergency and use their number as the contact number in the event you lose your phone.
    • Pro Tip: Bring an additional device that you can connect to the internet to be able to use for messaging in the event your phone is lost, damaged, or stolen. Don't forget to set up a QR code on your phone that brings up your emergency contact in the event your phone is lost and someone finds it or returns it to lost and found. You can make one at codes.crd.com
  • Trust your instincts
    • During your whole trip, listen to your instinct, if something feels fishy, there is a good chance it is. Ravers are some of the nicest people you will meet, but sadly that doesn't mean there are a few bad actors in a crowd. If you ever feel unsafe at the event, feel free to interact with the people around you.

Final Notes

Attending a music festival solo is nothing to be afraid of and in fact, it can be an incredibly rewarding experience! Festival-goers embody the spirit of PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect), creating an atmosphere of inclusivity and connection. Whether you're dancing in the crowd, meeting new people, or enjoying the music, you'll find that the energy around you is welcoming and uplifting. Embrace the adventure, be open to new experiences, and remember that at a festival, you're never truly alone as you’re part of a community that celebrates music, togetherness, and positivity.
